I need help from anyone who knows about cats. I know nothing but there is a sweet cat in my life who needs help. Ever since I moved into my apartment more than two years ago, a tiny black and white stray cat has been lurking. He is very skittish and has never let me get too close but I think he trusts me. We feed him everyday and he likes to meet me at the car when I get home from work and walk me to my door. My ex named him Steve and it seems to have stuck :) All the neighbors call him that now, too. I have been worrying lately about what will happen to him when I get married and move away. I think he was abused, he has one ear that looks like some kid hacked off the tip with a pair of scissors. He is just so sweet and I know he loves us, he just has a fear of commitment.
Anyway, I noticed today that he has a nasty infection in an eye. It is a red thing that is sort of growing over the eye and now covers almost half of it. And the eye is sort of squinting shut. Should I try to capture him and take him to a vet? He was extra attentive to me today like he was crying out for help. Help Steve-O! What to do?

Oh no! Get better Steve! I don't have any advice because our only interaction with cats is spraying the 9 of them that live two houses down and roam the neighborhood with our super soaker.
YES - capture him and take him to the vet!!! He needs vet attention. Can you keep him? If not make sure he gets to an animal shelter once you've cleared up his eye.
If you need any more advice visit my friend's blog Wandering Girl - link is on my blog. She's the resident cat rehabilitator...
I am toying with the idea of keeping him. He is the sweetest thing and I adore his little quirks. I am just afraid that he'll freak out if we try to capture him. I'll update later.
Do you recall that you are very allergic to cats?
Oh no! Poor Steve!
T--you have such a kind soul!
K - I don't think I am that allergic anymore. I haven't ha problems in a while.
C - yes, I have a soft spot for poor little animals, but please remember I don't have kids and therefore have to focus my maternal instincts other places :)
i agree with the zoo keeper! get one of those cardboard pet carriers, and lure little stevie with some treats and then put him in. he might freak, but it's for his own safety. and if you don't keep him, please do take him to a (no kill!) shelter.
aw steve-o. i hope you're able to successfully scoop him up and help him out !
